Trump “absolutely willing” to accept the results of the midterm elections and prepared to work with Democrats

On November 3, 2026 shortly before 10:30 p.m. local time, President Trump spoke to two reporters of the New York Times and told them that he was “absolutely willing” to accept the results of the midterm elections and prepared to work with Democrats.

In the 2026 midterms, Democrats win both the House and the Senate. Trump blamed Republican losses on the fact that he was not on the ballot. At the same time, he called his decision to go to war with Iran a “very wise decision”.

Regarding the Senate race in South Carolina, Trump told the New York Times: “I see that Darline lost. Wow, that’s amazing. How do you think Lindsey would have done if he ran?” Her older brother, Senator Lindsey Graham (1955-2026), had suddenly died on July 11, 2026 from an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, just two days after his 71st birthday. South Carolina governor Henry McMaster had appointed Darline Graham (*1964), a pediatrician without political experience, to serve the rest of her brother’s term in the Senate. President Trump immediately endorsed her to run for the next one. Subsequently, she prevailed in the Republican Senate primary in South Carolina. But on November 3, 2026 Darline Graham lost in the 2026 midterms to the Democratic candidate Annie Andrews (*1980).

Just one “detail” regarding the late Senator Lindsey Graham: yes, he was a key figure regarding U.S. support for Ukraine and one of the rare people able to work across the aisle. But if he had stood up against Trump and impeached him after the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol, most of those efforts would not have been necessary, because a majority in the U.S. Congress is in favor of aid to Ukraine. The main problem regarding aid for Ukraine was and remains the wannabe dictator Donald J. Trump, who thinks that the Russian dictator Putin is his “friend”. In November 2020, Lindsey Graham went as far as to call the Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to ask him to throw out all legal mail-in ballots; Graham later disputed the claim by Raffensperger, but at least it is a fact that Raffensperger stood up for democracy whereas Lindsey Graham sided with Trump.

In the 2026 midterms, the Democrat James Talarico managed to win the Senate seat up for grabs in Texas, where Democrats have not won since the reelection of Lloyd Bentsen in 1988! Donald Trump had handpicked the shady and unpopular Attorney General of Texas Ken Paxton to run for the Texas Senate seat. Paxton had once been impeached by members of his own Republican Party in the Texas House of Representatives, but was acquitted in 2023; he still faces legal troubles. Elon Musk, who lives in Texas, had poured in $158 million to help Paxton win the Texas Senate seat. But the MAGA firebrand Paxton was too toxic for a majority of voters. Especially many of those Hispanics who had voted for Trump in the presidential election turned against his candidates, notably because of the president’s immigration policy. The scandal-ridden Republican Ken Paxton was clearly defeated by the Democrat James Talarico with roughly 54% to 44%.

In Georgia, the Democrat Jon Ossoff managed to beat the Trump cheerleader Mike Collins (roughly 59% to 41%). In total, Democrats will at least control 53 of the 100 Senate seats. In the House, Democrats are about to win the largest majority since the 2008 election, probably around 255 seats—218 needed for control of the House. Democrats managed to flip both chambers of Congress. President Trump is now a lame duck. Will he try to continue to go rogue nevertheless? Is an impeachment around the corner?

For 88% of U.S. voters, the corruption within the United States government was the number one priority, followed by worries about inflation (85%) and, in particular, about gas prices (83%), according to a Fox News poll published on October 14, 2026.

President Trump and his administration have failed on most election promises. Yes, Trump has largely closed the border with Mexico, but the price of the decline in immigration are ICE brutalities and uncertainty—even among legal immigrants. Inflation is not under control. Gas prices are above $4 a gallon—gas prices aren’t so high because of Zelensky’s attacks on oil storage facilities in Russia, but because of Trump’s haphazard war against Iran. Trump has not drained the swamp. He, his family and his friends are the swamp. A swamp unlike anything seen before, at least in modern U.S. history. Trump remains a danger for democracy—in the United States and around the globe. He must at least be contained.
