May’s deal rejected by 344 votes to 286

Just a few minutes ago, the House of Commons rejected Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit withdrawal agreement, negotiated with the other 27 EU member states, for the third time! May’s deal was rejected by 344 votes to 286.

In pretty much any other situation, the prime minister would be history a long time ago (after the first no to her deal). It is time for Theresa May to step down.

We live in the 21st century with three major economic blocs: China, the US and the EU which, with the UK included, is the world’s leading economic force! It does not make sense for the UK to split from the EU because its negotiating power would be radically diminished. If the UK should exit the EU, the risk is high that Scotland will organize a referendum and subsequently ask to rejoin the EU. Since the UK will no longer be a member of the EU, it could not block such a move as was potentially the case in the context of the last Scottish referendum and as would be possible for Spain if ever Catalonia managed to split from Spain.

The EU can only remain relevant if all EU partners work together. Therefore, reform is needed. EU decisions can no longer be taken unanimously. Maybe a two-thirds majority of EU member states and countries representing two-thirds of the EU population should be adopted as the qualified majority for taking future decisions within the EU. The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) must radically be changed. It cannot be that the EU squanders roughly 38% of its budget on agricultural subsidies and other counterproductive measures. Let the free market reign!

If you want to make these changes, if you want Britain to remain relevant in world, you have to vote for Britain to remain a member of the EU. If you are an MP, revoke Article 50 and/or ask for a second referendum in which the voters can have their final say on the matter. It’s a no-brainer, a matter of common sense to understand that Remain is by far the best option on the table.
