Remain is in the best interest of the British

What does a UK politician have to focus on first? To act in the best interest of the country’s citizens. Currently, Remain is in the best interest of the British people.

Not only if you cannot come forward with a deal, instead of crashing out of the EU, Remain is the best deal. To stay a member of the EU is better than May’s Deal and, in fact, of any deal the EU will be willing to offer the UK. If you want to have full access to the common market shared by all EU countries, you have to accept the rules and regulations that regulate that market. A country such as my own, Switzerland, has to accept the Acquis communautaire.

The EU is by far the UK’s most important trading partner, accounting for roughly half of its imports and exports. Therefore, it does not make any sense to crash out of the EU, especially not without a deal. No Deal is just an option for people who live in a parallel universe in which the UK is the world’s leading power, in which Britannia rules the waves, in which the Empire, its glory, Imperialism and racism will come back. Some of the Brexiters aka Brexiteers dream of reviving the Commonwealth. But the Commonwealth cannot replace the EU. We live in a world of complex, international supply chaines. The economies of the UK, France, Germany and others are closely intertwined, interconnected.

Remain is in the best interest of the British because, at present, it is the best deal available. According to an article published  in the Guardian, the incompetent, Trotskyist leader Jeremy Corbyn has finally, half-way woken up and said, speaking outside the European commission headquarters in Brussels, that he does not rule out to revoke Article 50 to prevent a no-deal Brexit. Nevertheless, he insisted his focus “at the moment” remained on trying to push the prime minister into a soft Brexit. Someone should tell Jeremy Corbyn that a soft Brexit is only second best to Remain and that his Labour party was largely in favour of Remain.

With a soft Brexit, you still have to accept the EU rules and regulations, the EU laws relevent for the common market, but you don’t have anything to say when it comes to changing existing or formulating new laws, rules, regulations.

It is true that the EU should stop spending over 40% of its budget for agricultural subsidies and other aides to farmers and the food industry. Yes, unanimity is no longer a great way to take decisions within the EU. But if you exit the EU, you will have no or at least a much lesser impact on the future of the EU than you have now.

The UK is one of the four major powers within the European Union: Germany, France, UK and Italy. Therefore, it should be evident to the UK government, to UK lawmakers and to all UK citizens that Remain is the best option. It is time to come back to a realist and pragmatic view of the country’s interests.
